What makes a hydrant smart?
Our SmartHydrant™ system is a device that attaches to, and converts a fire hydrant from simply a 'thing flowing water', to one that monitors its environment: Who it is. Where it is. And, what's going on around it; And, it communicates this information to the utility.

What's going on around it? What does that mean? Plain English Please! Imagine a hydrant that can 'listen' for distribution system leaks within a 1,200 ft.(*) radius. A hydrant that can monitor for un-authorized usage and notify you instantly. A hydrant that can advise you when it needs attention. A hydrant that can communicate with your AMR, AMI or Advanced Infrastructure Management System. A hydrant with 2 way communications. (*)

How much, and who makes them?

The SmartHydrant™ Module, developed, manufactured and sold by b3o enviroTek, is in pre-development and will be released in two versions.

Version I - Will combine distribution system Leak detection, data analysis capabilities, a 10-15 year battery life and data collection via a mobile controller. The core capability of identifying leakage, up to a 1,200 ft. radius* from the hydrant, is an integral feature of each SmartHydrant™ version. Target price under $400.00 per hydrant.


Version II - Will combine the capabilities of Version 1 with our Hydrant Data Management System, two way communications that include alert notifications, and 2-way AMI interfaces. Target price under $800.00 per hydrant.
